Services for Staff Members

The media center is on a flexible schedule that allows for collaboration. Teachers are encouraged to work with the media specialist to team-teach research and reading skills. Stop by anytime to schedule a whole class or small group lesson.

The media staff will collect materials for teachers on a requested topic. Materials Request forms are available online. Please be specific and allow 48 hours to process these requests.

Teachers may request that the media center purchase specific materials to enhance the curriculum. Purchase requests will be evaluated by the media specialist and purchased when funding is available. Request for Purchase forms are available online. Accelerated Reader tests are purchased occasionally. Teachers, students and parents are encouraged to submit titles of books to be included in the AR test bank. If the test is available and appropriate, it will be purchased when funding allows.

Staff members may request announcements to be aired on the closed circuit television news show. Requests must be made by noon the day prior to airing.  Request for Announcement forms are available online. All WCTV announcements are due by 10 a.m. the day prior to airing. All video bulletin board announcements are due by 7 a.m. the day of airing.

Various equipment is available for checkout on a first come, first serve basis. Please plan ahead to be sure you have equipment reserved for the date and time needed.

Please report any problems with AV and computer equipment. Requests for Repair forms are available in the media center.

Guidelines for Media Center Use
We hope that all students and teachers have the opportunity to visit the media center as often as needed. Every class will have a media center orientation at the beginning of the school year prior to checking out books.

Whole classes or small groups may schedule the media center for instruction on an as need basis. The media specialist will collaborate with the teachers to develop lessons that enhance the classroom curriculum including themes based curriculum, research, reading, and writing skills. Please schedule these classes one week prior to the visit to allow for planning and the collection of materials.

Small groups of students doing research are welcome, but it is helpful to schedule these small group visits in advance with the media specialist to ensure that help is available for students when they arrive.

Teachers may send three students at a time to the media center at any time during the day to exchange books or for independent reading time unless otherwise notified. Students should be limited to one visit per day to protect their instructional time.
